Mainframe engineer who keeps critical batch systems running for a government social security agency.

A government agency that pays out social security benefits to millions of citizens is hiring a mainframe engineer. You keep the batch systems running that process these payments every day. Downtime here is not an option, so your work directly affects people's income.

What you will do:

  • Maintain and improve mainframe applications and batch jobs.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot large-scale processing runs.
  • Work on modernization and migration of legacy components.
  • Document systems so knowledge stays available to the team.
  • Coordinate with other teams on releases and changes.

What you bring:

  • Experience with mainframe technology, such as COBOL and JCL.
  • Understanding of large batch processing environments.
  • Bachelor's or master's level of thinking.
  • Fluent in Dutch, since you work within a Dutch government context.
  • You are precise and take responsibility for critical systems.

What you get:

  • Work with clear, direct impact on society.
  • Job security within a stable public-sector employer.
  • Room to grow into modernization projects alongside your legacy work.
