VP Engineering
Our client, a fast-growing mobility technology company based in Utrecht, is looking for a VP Engineering to build and lead the engineering department as the company enters its next growth phase.
As VP Engineering, you will be responsible for engineering delivery, team performance, and organizational health. While the CTO focuses on product and technology vision, you will ensure the engineering teams are structured, staffed, and equipped to deliver reliably at increasing scale.
Key responsibilities:
- Build and lead the engineering organization, growing from 20 to 50+ engineers across multiple product teams
- Establish engineering management practices, including hiring processes, onboarding, career frameworks, and performance reviews
- Own delivery execution, ensuring predictable release cadences and high-quality output
- Define and track engineering health metrics such as cycle time, deployment frequency, and incident rates
- Partner with the CTO and product leadership to align engineering capacity with strategic priorities
- Foster an engineering culture of ownership, transparency, and continuous improvement
Requirements:
- 10+ years in software engineering with at least 3 years leading engineering teams of 20+
- Proven experience scaling engineering organizations in high-growth environments
- Strong people leadership skills, including coaching engineering managers and building inclusive teams
- Technical depth sufficient to engage credibly with architecture and system design discussions
- Excellent communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus
